Health Concern: Region: Keyword: Type:

We are very excited to introduce ANCHOR -- a community-based research project focusing on improving the heart health of Nova Scotians.

Did you know that Atlantic Canadians have the highest rate of cardiovascular risk factors and the highest risk of dying of heart disease in the Nation? And, that residents of the Atlantic Provinces are actually above the national average for all key risk factors associated with heart disease including smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and physical inactivity.

This is a very real trend and, over the next three years, ANCHOR will be researching ways to change its course. Our goal is to help prevent chronic conditions, such as heart disease, to ultimately enhance the health of our population. We also see ANCHOR as a significant opportunity to advance the primary health care vision in Nova Scotia.

We remain committed to sharing our progress with you as we begin this very important journey, so be sure to visit our new website for regular updates

On behalf of the ANCHOR research team, a very special thank you to the QEII Foundation’s Working Miracles capital campaign and the generous contribution from Pfizer Canada Inc – this project would not be possible without your commitment and support.
